April Snow, Sleet In NoVA, DC: Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued

WASHINGTON, DC — The Monday morning commute could be a wet one for some drivers, with a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snowy possible. Several inches of snow may fall in parts of Maryland, according to weather officials.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Washington, D.C., and parts of northern Virginia. Rain will develop overnight and mix with and change to snow before ending Monday morning for areas near and west of the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan areas.

Parts of Virginia in the outlook area are: Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford, Spotsylvania and King George.

Drivers are advised to be careful, expecting limited visibility and snow-covered roads Monday morning, although most of the snow is expected on grassy surfaces.

Across northern Virginia, rain is expected to transition to a rain-snow mix overnight Sunday into Monday morning. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s overnight Sunday, and the high will be in the low 50s Monday in the DC area, according to the forecast.

Sunday Afternoon: Scattered sprinkles. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. Northwest wind around 10 mph.

Tonight: Scattered sprinkles before 11pm, then rain between 11pm and 5am, then rain and sleet after 5am. Low around 37. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Monday: Rain and sleet, possibly mixed with snow before 8am, then a slight chance of rain and snow between 8am and 11am. High near 52. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.

Monday Night: A chance of rain between 11pm and 2am, then areas of drizzle with a chance of rain after 2am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 42. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday: Areas of drizzle with a chance of rain before noon, then a slight chance of showers after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 63. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tuesday Night: A slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday: A chance of thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 51.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 60.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40.

Saturday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: A chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 49.
